NEW ENGLAND SENIOR GOLFERS’ ASSOCIATION, INC CHARITABLE GIFT FUND

The members of the New England Senior Golfers; Association, Inc. have always been very generous in giving back to the game.  For many years they have made gifts to Woodland and Brae Burn, the two Clubs which have been the backbone of the organization since the early 1920’s.  Also, an annual contribution to the Francis Ouimet Fund has always been a top priority.

As the game of golf has grown, so has the News England Senior Golfers’ Association in its desire to do more.  On September 16, 1997 the Board of Governors passed a resolution establishing a Scholarship to be funded annually by voluntary contributions from the membership and to be administered by the Ouimet Fund under their Restricted Scholarship Awards Program.  On March 1, 1998, the first letter soliciting funds to establish the NESGA Scholarship Fund was sent out to the entire membership and as expected the response demonstrated the generosity of the members.  At the Annual Meeting in June of that year we announced the granting of our first Scholarship Award to a young man who was a Caddie at Marshfield Country Club and attending Yale University.  Every year since we have awarded a scholarship to a young person who has worked at a golf club where we have played one of our golf tournaments.

Later; the desire to do more for Golf manifested itself in the establishment of the New England Senior Golfers’ Association Inc. Charitable Gift Fund.  Now we continue to support our Scholarship Fund and also give financial aid to organizations throughout the New England States that are engaged in fostering the ethic and tradition of golf. For example, INNER CITY golf programs for youngsters.  The Charitable Gift Fund makes grant recommendations to the Board of Governors annually.
