TOURNAMENTS for 2008 As one would expect, the main cause for being for the NESGA is having golf tournaments and we have five per year, one each month, June through October. All of them are named to honor members, past or present, who have made significant contributions to golf and the NESGA. The first event of the year is our Annual Championship, a two day gross tournament named for Parrin Jarboe, a nine time champion and held at Brae Burn CC and Woodland GC, clubs near one another in Newton, MA, June 2 and 3.
Our July tournament named for Barrett Nichols Sr., will be held July 1 at the International.
Our August tournament, named to honor Clifton Larson, will be held this year at Abenaqui CC in New Hampshire on August 18.
The tournament in September is named for Leon Bishop, long time member and Secretary of the Seniors and will be played at Salem CC on September 16.
Our final tournament - The Gael Coakley-Richard Stimets Tournament - will be held at Oyster Harbors Club (Centerville, MA) on October 15. All tournaments recognize best performances, net and gross, in each age category, of which there are several. Members may make up their own playing groups or can be assisted in so doing by the Tournament Committee. Good fellowship is of prime importance.
Should an event be over-subscribed, those not making the cut are given preference at the next event. Through the years, tournaments have and will be held in all the New England States. Members are asked to help the Tournament Committee in obtaining their own club for an event and through the years this has allowed us the privilege of playing many of New England’s finest courses.
